Kostiantyn Yefymenko reported on the two recent road accidents on the railway crossings that that received great publicity. He presented statistical data on the rate of accidents on the railway crossings. Thus, there are annually 80 casualties on the railway tracks due to the crossing in prohibited or misadjusted places.
K.Yefymenko announced that the Ministry planned to develop a comprehensive action plan to reequip the railway crossings, construct overpass bridges, etc. Moreover, they plan to conduct explanatory work among the public and take preventive measures, informing about the behaviour on the road and in transport.
The Committee members discussed the situation, and expressed their opinion regarding traffic safety and preventive measures.
They called for raising the fines for violating traffic rules on the railway crossing, as the penalty for passing the railway crossing against the lights is twice lower than the similar violation of traffic rules on the motor intersection.
The Committee members called for conducting explanatory work with the local authorities.
The People´s Deputies suggested strengthening the role of the State Motor Vehicle Inspectorate in the supervision over the quality of passenger traffic services.
The Committee resolved to set up a working group involving the Committee members, representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the State Motor Vehicle Inspectorate, the Ministry of Education, experts and public to work upon the proposals expressed.
Within ten days, the working group should present its proposals as to the enhancement of the legislative base on traffic safety.
